Park Picnic Shelters


Permitting on a limited number of Picnic Shelters will begin on September 1:

  • Black Hill RP – 10 shelters  

  • Cabin John RP – 11 shelters  

  • Cabin John Group Picnic Area – 2 shelters

  • Damascus RP – 3 shelters  

  • Ridge Road RP – 3 shelters  

  • Rock Creek RP – 18 shelters  

  • South Germantown RP – 4 shelters  

  • Wheaton RP – 8 shelters  

Montgomery Parks offers covered picnic shelters throughout the county for large and small groups to host picnics or events. Multiple shelters are located within Regional or Recreational Parks, where there are a variety of amenities and activities for guests. These shelters are equipped with picnic tables, grills, and access to permanent restrooms. Smaller shelters are located within smaller Local Parks throughout the county and two Group Picnic Areas are available for larger, semi-private group picnics.

Required Safety Guidelines

• Face coverings are required when the physical distancing of 6 feet from others is not possible

• A maximum of 25 people per gathering

The shelters located at Wheaton Regional Park and the two Group Picnic Areas at Cabin John Regional Park and Valley Mill Special Park are available by permit only. All other shelters may be used on a first-come, first-served basis, but permit holders will be given priority at all times. Contact the Park Permits Office to reserve.

Picnic shelters are available weekdays and weekends between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., from April 1 through October 31.
