Imagine sitting around a cozy campfire roasting marshmallows and sharing stories with friends and family… Montgomery Parks can make it happen! Private groups may reserve campfire rings at four different locations.

Note: You will be accepting responsibility for your group complying with physical distancing and masking requirements while using the fire ring. The current limitation on group gathering size is 25 people outdoors. Montgomery County Guidelines must be strictly followed for all Shelter and Campfire Ring Rentals. Included in All Fire Ring Rentals:

  • Enough fuel (wood logs) for your reservation. Additional firewood available at no additional charge. Flames must be under 3 feet high at all times.
  • An empty safety bucket. You are required to fill this with water and keep it close to the lit ring at all times. The bucket can be filled in one of our nearby spigots or in the creek, and must be returned to the Nature Center at the end of your rental.

You Must Provide:

  • A starter, such as matches or a lighter, and any kindling needed to start the fire.
  • Marshmallows, roasting sticks, and any other food your group wishes to enjoy.
  • Trash bags (you must pack out all trash).
  • Someone to start the fire, and someone to watch the lit fire at all times.

• Firewood and fire starter materials are included. A staff person will be on hand to make sure you are able to get your fire started and to ensure that the fire is properly extinguished.

• You must have a permit to reserve a campfire ring at Black Hill Nature Programs.

• Staff member will be on hand during the rental time to assist with the fire as needed and to ensure it is being properly monitored and extinguished.

Brookside Nature Center

• Woodland Amphitheater features 2 large stone campfire circles, auditorium seating and 8+ picnic tables in a wooded setting

• Maple Grove Campfire Area features 1 campfire circle, rustic log seating, 1-2 picnic tables and is adjacent to our outdoor nature place space

• Rental pavilion is located adjacent to outdoor nature play space.

• Pavilion has electricity and lighting capacity.

Locust Grove Nature Center

• Firewood and fire starter materials are included. You are responsible for starting and extinguishing the fire when ready.

• You must have a permit to reserve a campfire ring at Locust Grove Nature Center.

The N.E.A. Fire Ring

The N.E.A. Fire Ring is located in the Natural Exploration Area just outside the front door of the Nature Center. It provides convenient access to the building and play features of the park. It’s open and sunny. It comfortably seats about 20 people.

The Oak Grove Fire Ring

The Oak Grove Fire Ring is shaded and private. It is at the top of the hill and provides convenient access to the Picnic Shelter, which can be rented in conjunction with the fire ring. Limited to 20 guests at this time. You can access this fire ring via the N.E.A. staircase, or from the sidewalk along Democracy Boulevard (no stairs).

The Sycamore Fire Ring

The Sycamore Fire Ring is our largest and most distinctive. It is situated under the beautiful arching branches of our 200 year old sycamore tree. The murmuring sounds of adjacent Cabin John Creek can be heard. Ideal for ceremonies of any kind. It also offers two picnic tables. The Sycamore is furthest from the parking lot and the Nature Center, and requires walking down either a long staircase or a steep gravel trail to access. Limited to 20 guests at this time.

 

 


Picnic Pavillion at Locust Grove Nature Center

The Picnic Pavilion at Locust Grove Nature Center

Would you like to host an event on the quiet side of the park? The picnic pavilion is available sunrise to sunset, seven days a week. The pavilion is covered and includes six picnic tables; the capacity is approximately 20 people at this time. This is an exclusive rental and is based on first come, first serve. If you would like to book with a fire ring the Oak Grove ring is close to the pavilion.
Fee: $25 per hour.

 Robert C. McDonell Campground

The Robert C. McDonell Campground offers seven walk-in primitive sites. There are two tent pads, two picnic tables, a grill, and a fire pit on each campsite. Depending on the site, up to 10 campers can be accommodated. Daytime and overnight rentals are available.

NOTE: Campsites are available year round with no running water between November 1 and March 31 at lower sites # 1, 2, 6, 7 and upper sites # 3, 4, 5. There are Porta Johns in each parking lot.
