This project provides a new urban park on 1.9 acres located on Western Avenue, just outside of the Friendship Heights Central Business District, within Chevy Chase Village.
The property was purchased by the M-NCPPC in partnership with Chevy Chase Village in 2002 based upon a recommendation in the Legacy Open Space Functional Master Plan. In 2008/2009 the existing single-family home, garage and driveway was removed. In 2010 a detailed site survey was completed and in 2011 the dead, dying and hazardous trees and invasive plants were removed. A Concept Plan for the property was developed in 2011/2012 with extensive input from the community. The Concept Plan formed the basis for the Facility Plan.
In June 2013, facility planning began. This project was reviewed by the Planning Board on September 19, 2013. Final design of the park is complete. Construction of the park is expected to begin in the Spring of 2016.
Links to review meeting notes and Planning Board memos will be attached to each applicable calendar event as it is scheduled and completed.
