In 2008, the Planning Board approved concept plans for these parks as part of the original site plan covering the entire Clarksburg Town Center. A new developer, Third Try LLC, has taken over the project and will be submitting amended plans in the near future. M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks needs to know what today’s community wants – something similar or different from the 2008 approved plans.
At a public meeting on May 28, 2014, Parks Staff shared the previously approved concept plans for these parks and compared them to new concept plans proposed by the new developer. Staff then asked the community for ideas on what activities and amenities still make sense to today’s population and what should be revised. After the presentation, attendees “voted” for which amenities they want in the parks.
Public input was also gathered through an online comment tool and survey between May and October 2014.

Piedmont Woods Local Park – The 65 acre Piedmont Woods Local Park was required as part of site plan approval to be conveyed to MNCPPC, for a “recreational park facility.” The Applicant was required to construct several amenities (slide 4). Third Try, LLC, the new developer has proposed a modified plan. (slides 4 & 5).
Kings Local Park – As part of the 2008 site plan, a 6-acre area was added to the existing Kings Local Park and several amenities were required to be built by the developer as well. (slide 9). To date, only the parking lot, gazebo, and picnic shelters, have been installed. Missing from the approved plan are a playground, fishing pier, picnic tables, and pathways. The new developer proposed to construct all but the playground in their revised plan. (slide 10).
