Falls Road Local Park
This project renovates existing facilities in a 19.9-acre park, located at the intersection of Falls Road and Falls Chapel Way in Potomac. This park is the site of Hadley’s Playground, a very popular play area designed for children of all abilities. Special education centers from throughout the county bring busloads of children to this park to enjoy the unique playground equipment. This project replaces the deteriorated rubberized playground surface that was originally installed in 1999 and expands the existing parking lot from 71 parking spaces to 154 spaces.
A facility planning study was conducted and a plan for the park was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board on October 4, 2007. The existing parking lot in inadequate to accommodate the volume of park patrons from the playground and other recreational facilities, including playing fields for football, soccer and baseball and a loop trail system. The project was approved and funded for detailed design and construction by the Montgomery County Council. The playground surface was funded for renovation in FY09, and the parking lot was funded for expansion in FY13.
Design of the playground surfacing is 80% completed.
