Darnestown Heritage Park

Project Description

This project provides a new park in Darnestown, located a 0.6-acre parcel of undeveloped land on Route 28 near Seneca Road.  The site includes an historic cemetery and is located adjacent to the Darnestown Village Center and single family residences.

A facility planning study was conducted, and a plan for the park was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board on September 6, 2007.  Features of the park include historical interpretation of the town, the on-site graveyard, and local Civil War events, a central seating and gathering area with a pergola, public art, definition of the graveyard boundaries with stone, seat walls and benches, planters, pathways, bicycle racks, and landscaping.   The project was approved and funded for detailed design and construction by the Montgomery County Council.
