Project Description

The Athletic Area restroom is located at 11710 Orebaugh Avenue, within the 536-acre Wheaton Regional Park, and is accessed via the park entrance at the intersection of Arcola Avenue and Orebaugh Avenue in Wheaton, Maryland. The existing restroom building is adjacent to a surface lot parking and is bounded by several baseball fields to the west, the Wheaton Ice Arena to the east, and the Wheaton Indoor Tennis Bubble to the south.

The project will demolish the existing, aging restroom building and reconstruct a new accessible restroom building in its place. The new building consists of two components: a utility wing and a wing with multi-fixture men’s and women’s rooms. A new family restroom, drinking fountains, and a bulletin board are also provided.  A breezeway between the two components connects the building’s perimeter sidewalks and adjacent parking lot.  The site work includes the construction of new stormwater management system (dry wells), new concrete pad for a future picnic pavilion, asphalt repairs and parking restriping, and utility improvements including connections to public sewer and water. A stone monument near the northeast corner of the building was temporarily removed and will be reinstalled when the new building is complete.  Portable toilets will be provided for public use during construction.
