Rosemary Hills Local Park – Trail Project

Project Description

This project proposes to alleviate several areas of concern in the northwest portion of the park. Specifically, existing trails/walkways near the Lanier Drive playground will be resurfaced, regraded, and realigned to conform with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, reduce tree root intrusions within the walkways, and improve the drainage patterns for increased user safety. Additionally, drainage related upgrades will be performed around the playground itself to help improve its use and function. Upon completion of the walkway construction, drainage and stormwater management enhancements will be installed to better channel stormwater from rain events, provide water quality enhancements, and reduce flooding in the low-lying areas.

Background

In 2011, Montgomery Parks entered into a Settlement Agreement with the US Department of Justice (DOJ), aimed at improving accessibility in our parks system. Accordingly, a multi-year plan, called a Transition Plan, finalized in 2016, was developed to guide the Park’s efforts in increasing and enhancing accessibility throughout our park system. Improvements within our system are based upon the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, as published by the DOJ, as well as the American Barriers Act (ABA) Accessibility Guidelines for Outdoor Developed Areas, developed by the US Access Board in 2009. Status/Project Update

The project has been delayed with work scheduled to begin in Summer 2020.

The project is currently in the final design. Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring/Summer 2019.
