Montgomery Parks’ COVID-19 Information

Facilities OPEN to the public include:

Montgomery Parks is canceling our 2020 summer camps due to the COVID-19 crisis. In addition, most park facilities will remain closed to the public. All programs, classes, and events are canceled through June 30, 2020. Refunds will be issued for any payments already made.

Playgrounds, athletic courts, Olney Manor Skate Park, and fields will remain closed until further notice. At this time, Montgomery Parks is not issuing permits for park athletic fields. To learn more please visit our Permits & Rentals page.

Montgomery Parks is expanding its open streets initiative to allow pedestrians and bicyclists to use parkways on weekends throughout the current COVID-19 crisis. The expansion of the program includes portions of Little Falls Parkway in Bethesda and portions of Beach Drive in Kensington. This provides additional space to walk, jog and bike from the previously announced Sligo Creek Parkway initiatives (See our Roadway Closures FAQs for additional details). These sections will be closed to vehicles and open to pedestrians, bicyclists, and other park users beginning Friday mornings at 9 a.m. through Sunday evenings at 6 p.m.:

Little Falls Parkway

  • University Boulevard to Dennis Avenue
  • Dennis Avenue to Forest Glen Road
  • Piney Branch Road to Maple Avenue
  • Maple Avenue to Old Carroll Road

Sections of Sligo Creek Parkway will remain open to vehicles where the parkway intersects with Dennis and Maple Avenues.

  • Knowles Avenue to Cedar Lane
  • Cedar Lane to Connecticut Avenue
  • Massachusetts Avenue to River Road
  • River Road to Arlington Road

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission urges our residents and visitors to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. If you go to a park or trail to exercise, use extreme caution. Maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others when outside. Do not participate in any team and contact sports. Avoid touching surfaces including playground equipment, benches, and other sports equipment that are handled by others. We discourage gathering in our parks and remind patrons that it is illegal to gather in groups of 10 or more.

Our parks and trails are open sunrise to sunset, but please:

  • Keep six feet between you and others at all times.
  • Do not play group or contact sports
  • Do not touch surfaces such as park benches, water fountains and athletic equipment such as fitness stations.
  • Dogs must be leashed
  • Use of playgrounds is prohibited.
  • Refrain from groups of ten or more.
  • Smoking, vaping, and alcohol is prohibited.

Spring Registration for Ice and Tennis has been postponed to a later date. We will provide that information and class schedule when they have been determined.
