Montgomery Parks has launched a bike share program intended to encourage public use of paved trails and promote outdoor recreation in the parks. Through a contract with Zagster, Inc. — a nationwide distributor and operator of app-based bike rental stations — bike rental stations are now located at Black Hill and Wheaton Regional Parks.
Zagster’s cruiser bikes feature eight gears, automatic lights, a bell as well as a front basket. The program will make 10 bikes available, including one accessible recumbent tricycle at Wheaton Regional Park. Rides under two hours are free. After two hours, riders will pay $3 per hour to continue using the bikes.
To participate, each rider must download the Zagster app and enroll in the Montgomery Parks bike share program. Enrollment is free, however each rider must provide credit card information to be kept on file. Riders without a smart phone can text SMS to (202) 999-3924 to learn how to ride by text message. After enrolling in the bike share program, users can check out bikes from the stations as often as they wish.
While using a Zagster bike in Montgomery Parks, riders must stay on paved trails. Please refer to the maps to see bike share routes in Wheaton Regional Park and bike share routes in Black Hill Regional Park. Riders can make stops along the trails by using the on-bike lock. Before riders end their bike trips, they must return the bikes to a Montgomery Parks Zagster station.
Bikes and bike station maintenance are provided by Zagster. For more information and to enroll in the bike share program, visit: bike.zagster.com/montgomeryparks.
