To create outdoor spaces where people of all ages and incomes can meet, play, relax, exercise, enjoy nature and more in a range of parks and open spaces in the highest populated areas of the County. The plan will:
The Plan will offer a comprehensive approach to how and where we create parks and public spaces throughout the county. This will help Montgomery Parks better identify needs, anticipate trends, and promote important goals such as health and social equity.
Park design, maintenance and safety will all be taken into consideration as part of the new plan. To support the plan, Montgomery Parks will recommend two new funding projects within our Capital Improvements Program (CIP): Parks Land Acquisition and Parks Facility Planning.
“Urban parks serve as critical public places for recreation and civic engagement, essential to quality of life in urban centers. Parks help provide solutions to a myriad of national and community issues: providing healthy places to exercise, managing stormwater runoff and helping clean the air, catalyzing economic and community development, and providing safe, close to home recreation options.” – the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)
Help us make sure every community has a great park. Ideas and comments from the public are welcome throughout the planning process. There will be multiple chances to weigh in on this plan throughout the Planning Board review and again during the County Council review.
Public outreach for this project will include this project web page, public meetings, focus group meetings, media releases and email campaigns to individuals and registered Homeowner and Civic Associations.
