Description
This project designs and constructs the second phase of proposed improvements at the 872-acre Woodstock Equestrian Park, located on both sides of Route 28 north of the historic town of Beallsville in the northwest corner of Montgomery County. This phase of the development of the park includes a cross country eventing course, an outdoor riding ring and expanded parking facilities on the east side of the park.
Background
The first phase of development for Woodstock Equestrian Park consisted of trails and bridges, parking lots, entrance walls, signage, landscape planting, documentation and structural assessment of historic structures, and archaeological work. Construction of this phase has been completed. A facility planning study was conducted and a plan for the second phase of park development was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board on January 15, 2009. The second phase includes a large fenced outdoor riding ring with terraced seating and berms, an expanded parking area, a working well with three frost-free hydrants, renovation of a garage/barn structure for storage of jumps and maintenance equipment, a gravel service drive for maintenance, a stone dust trail from the parking lot to the new ring, and directional and wayfinding signage. This project is funded for design and initial construction limited to the available funding of $750,000. Construction of the remaining facilities will be completed as additional donations and/or grants are obtained.
Status/Project Update
Design plans and permitting process completed Spring 2011. Project was bid in the Spring of 2011 and the contract was awarded in August 2011. Construction begins in September 2011, with completion
anticipated
in Spring 2012.
