Project Description

The goal of this project is to bring Kensington Cabin Local Park into compliance with current Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines (ADA) and stormwater management requirements. The scope of park improvements will include a handicapped parking space on Kensington Parkway, an accessible trail connecting key park features, a new playground, basketball court renovation, fencing, landscaping and storm water treatment.

Background

The Department of Justice has mandated that public parks come into compliance with current ADA guidelines. Montgomery County Parks was in the process of updating trail accessibility in Kensington Cabin Park when local residents identified that the ADA improvements would adversely affect existing green space and did not utilize current best practices for stormwater management.

Status/Project Update

A Task Order was developed for final design of improvements at Kensington Cabin Local Park. Proposals have been received and are being evaluated. Design is expected to begin in summer of 2010.

Calendar and Meeting Notes

The A/E firm selected is required to develop a schedule which will include one public meeting in the Town of Kensington to illustrate the preferred design. This website will be updated with that information when available.
