Project Description
This project develops a facility plan to renovate an existing 2.7 acre park, located on Arcola Avenue at Lamberton Drive in Wheaton. The scope of the facility planning includes preparing a site analysis, 30% design, determination of regulatory feasibility, and a cost estimate for the project. Upon completion of facility planning, the project will be proposed in the parks Capital Improvements Program to obtain funding for final design and construction.
Background
Kemp Mill Urban Park was originally developed during the 1960’s and received awards and acknowledgements for innovative design. Its key feature is a man-made pond which covers about one-fourth of the park. The existing park also includes a playground, half basketball court, gazebo, pedestrian bridge and trails around the pond. The park receives heavy use from nearby residents, patrons of the adjacent shopping center, and parents with children using the playground. The original infrastructure of the park has seriously deteriorated over the years and accessibility is inconvenient for parents with strollers.
Status/Project Update
The 30% Facility Plan drawings will be completed by late Winter 2010/2011.
