Project Description
This project provides a new park on a 25-acre parcel of undeveloped land on Glen Road in Potomac.
Background
This new park was proposed in the 2002 Potomac Subregion Master Plan. The 1998 Park Recreation and Open Space Master Plan and the updated 2005 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan identified the Travilah planning area as having some of the highest unmet recreational needs in the county, specifically identifying the need for ballfields, basketball courts and playgrounds in this planning area.
A facility planning study was conducted, and a plan for the park was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board on September 8, 2005. Features of the park include a regulation soccer/football field with spectator areas, a single basketball/multi-use court, a single grass volleyball court, a playground, asphalt loop path and pedestrian connections, seating and entrance features, picnic table areas, a gazebo, a 70-space parking area, and landscaping and other miscellaneous amenities. The park plan also conserves contiguous portions of the site in natural areas. The project was approved and funded for detailed design and construction by the Montgomery County Council.
Status/Project Update
Funding for detailed design became available in Summer FY10 with construction proposed in FY14. A request for proposals has beenadvertised for consultant services to complete the construction documents and permits, including a revised stormwater management concept.
