Project Description
East Norbeck Local Park
This project renovates and expands an existing park located on the north side of Norbeck Road (MD 28), east of Georgia Avenue. The park originally consisted of 10-acres and was developed in the 1970’s. Existing facilities include a softball field, a baseball field, a soccer field overlay, two lighted tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, a playground, a picnic shelter with restrooms and a small asphalt parking lot. An additional 15 acres were added to the park in 1997, primarily to expand the undersized parking lot and provide additional recreational facilities.
Background
A facility planning study was conducted and a plan for the park was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board on June 26, 2003. Proposed facilities include an enlarged parking lot, a path network connecting the parking lot to the facilities, a natural surface trail, picnic pavilion, restrooms, lighted tennis courts, lighted basketball court, playground, soccer/lacrosse field, and expanded and re-aligned baseball and softball fields that do not overlap. In addition, this project will incorporate green design features, including pervious paving and recycled materials. The project was approved and funded for detailed design and construction by the Montgomery County Council.
Status/Project Update
The project is currently under construction.
