CIP Budget Process
What is the CIP?
The CIP is a six year capital improvements program that is prepared every two years. It includes new or renovation projects costing over $25,000 with a useful life greater than 15 years. It also includes smaller planned life cycle asset replacement (PLAR) projects that increase the life of assets.
Key Park CIP Dates
- Spring (odd year) – Montgomery County Planning Board ("Planning Board") and Recreation Advisory Boards jointly sponsor a CIP public forum
- April - October – Montgomery County Department of Parks ("Parks") holds several work sessions with the Planning Board on Proposed Parks' CIP
- November 1 (odd year) – The Planning Board submits to County Executive and County Council Parks' Proposed CIP per State of Maryland's Article 28
- January 15 (even year) – County Executive releases recommended Capital Budget and six year CIP
- February (even year) – County Council holds public hearings on CIP
- February - May (even year) – County Council and Planning Housing and Economic Development (PHED) Committee reviews CIP
- June (even year) – County Council adopts CIP
- July 1 (even year) – New CIP goes into effect
