The iconic Rockwood Manor was built in the 1920s and served as the country estate of Carolyn Gangwer Caughey (pronounced “coy”). Nestled in 30 acres of forest and just steps away from the C&O Canal National Historical Park, the manor exudes rustic elegance and old-world charm. Today, it offers guests a dynamic, secluded, and naturally stunning venue in which to meet, socialize, and celebrate.
Rockwood Manor is owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). It is one of four Montgomery Parks Event Centers.
This beautiful estate is easily accessible from downtown Washington, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia, and also offers optional overnight accommodations! Rockwood provides on-site parking, wireless internet access, tables and chairs, and a warming kitchen for your licensed, insured caterer of choice. See current photos on our Facebook page.
Rockwood Manor is an ideal location for both indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions. Couples may enjoy an outdoor ceremony in the secluded Flagstone patio area with the Grand Bridal Entranceway or in the manicured Gazebo Garden. Celebrations are typically followed by cocktails in the Manor House, spilling out onto the Veranda.
Dine in Brooke Hall and Great Falls rooms then dance the night away with your guests in the windowed Rapidan Room with a picturesque view of the Gazebo Garden. Rockwood is also the perfect place to host holiday parties and to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, bar/bat mitzvahs, and graduations. Maximum venue capacity is 120. The comfortable venue capacity is 80 (seated maximum in the largest room).
The Manor is typically available for viewing during Open House events, so patrons are encouraged to visit. The next Open House will be held on Wednesday, August 23 (4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). RSVPs are kindly encouraged but not required. To RSVP or check available dates, please e-mail: RockwoodManor@MontgomeryParks.org.
For private weekday appointments, please email us. Private appointments may be accommodated based upon venue schedule. If you arrive without an appointment, we may not be able to show you around the property if a private event is scheduled.
One of our most popular options is the Weekend Retreat Package, most often utilized for weddings. A Weekend Retreat Package includes the use of the Manor House and beautiful wooded grounds, plus overnight accommodations from Friday at 3 p.m. until Sunday at 11 a.m. The package includes 10 hotel-style rooms, a three-bedroom bungalow, three rustic bunkhouse cabins and designated Manor House Access Hours.
Wedding attendees will enjoy a memorable weekend with guest check-in, venue decorating, and possibly a rehearsal dinner on Friday. Receptions take place on Saturday and guests usually appreciate being offered a casual brunch when they check out of their rooms on Sunday morning. The wedding couple can design their own weekend events to fit their preferences by supplying everything needed to make the weekend perfect – including decorations, food, and beverages.
We are not a hotel, but Park Staff are on the premises during your Manor House Access Hours to allow you full use of the entire property!
Rockwood Manor’s convenient location and six meeting rooms make it an ideal setting for your next business meeting. The variety of rooms and layouts allows for gatherings of up to 80 guests in one room with space for break-out sessions for smaller groups. You may also add overnight rooms to your Business reservation to enjoy the property for multi-day meetings. We do not offer in-house catering but will be happy to supply names of several local restaurants/caterers who have fulfilled business catering needs in the past and are familiar with Rockwood Manor.
