Becoming a Volunteer
Volunteering at Meadowside Nature Center (MNC) provides a great way to get your hands dirty and work with nature. Volunteers help in every area of MNC whether it's on the floor greeting the public, behind the scenes caring for animals, or outside working in our gardens. Individuals, scout groups, high school students needing to fulfill SSL hours and businesses are all welcome. If you want to be a part of a dynamic place that is full of fun, learning, and excitement consider volunteering. You'll quickly learn that every day is completely different when you volunteer at Meadowside Nature Center.

Camp Counselors
American Girl Camp Counselor, July 2nd - July 6th
This is a great opportunity for youth and adults who would like to volunteer this summer! Help children learn new crafts, have new adventures, and enjoy food & fun, just like the American Girls! Most days include field trips to local sites. Background Check Required.
Ages: 15 and up

American Girl Camp Counselor (Extended Care), July 2nd - July 6th

Animal Discovery Camp, July 16th - July 20th
This is a great volunteer opportunity for youth and adults looking to volunteer this summer! Help children explore where local animals live, eat, and grow. Assist with special nature projects for the children to take home and treasure. Background Check Required.

Chesapeake Week Camp Counselor, August 6th - August 10th
This is a great short term volunteer opportunity for youth and adults looking to volunteer this summer! Camp Counselors will help kids explore the Chesapeake Bay and the watershed region through sailing, camping, canoeing and more! We will begin the week by exploring the Bay by boat as we trawl for fish, dredge for oysters and analyze water samples looking for microscopic life forms. By mid-week, we will take a more intimate look at the Bay's waterways through canoeing, camping, crabbing and fossil hunting. We will finish the week by examining the lives of those who have made the Bay their home, both past and present, including early colonial life and life in a long house village. Background Check Required.
Ages: 17 and up
Time: Monday & Tuesday 8:00am-5:00pm and 8:00am Wednesday - 5:00pm Friday
NOTE:
This position requires two consecutive nights of camping in Southern Maryland

iHike Camp Counselor, July 10th - July 13th
This is a great volunteer opportunity for adults looking to volunteer this summer! Camp Counselors will help teens explore the Maryland section of the Appalachian Trail. We will hike about 10 miles a day taking in all the trail has to offer. In the evenings we while be camping in the shelters and state parks along the trail. Background Check Required.
Ages: 20 and up
Time: Tuesday 9:30am - Friday 5:00pm
NOTE: This position requires three consecutive nights of camping along the Appalachian Trail.

Junior Naturalist Outdoor Adventures Camp Counselor, July 23rd - July 27th
This is a great volunteer opportunity for youth and adults looking to volunteer this summer! Help young naturalists get immersed in nature and outdoor adventures at this camp designed to learn about unique habitats and wildlife research and issues. Field trips will include exploring deep into cave formations, a trip to the Chesapeake Bay, as well as active adventures hiking and canoeing. Background Check Required.

Ponds, Puddles, & Pools Camp Counselor, July 16 - July 20
This is a great opportunity for youth and adults looking to volunteer this summer. This camp is for kids that can't resist getting wet on a hot summer day! Camp counselors are needed to help kids join us in water play and explorations. We will learn about and enjoy different types of water habitats and the many animals that swim, hop, or sneak along the water's edge. Background Check Required.
