Volunteers
Have fun, contribute to your community and learn about nature while volunteering at Locust Grove Nature Center. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Volunteer Naturalist
Would you like to share your love of nature? Assist with or lead parts of nature programs; help with research projects, displays, and the creation of educational materials. - Camp Counselor
Do you like working with children? Help at our summer nature camps, held in July and August. Apply early! - Nature Center Hostess or Host
Do you enjoy working with the public? Help nature center visitors by providing basic information on our programs and trails. - Animal Care
Do you like working with animals? Help feed the birds and other wildlife or help care for our exhibit animals. - Special Events
Would you like to volunteer occasionally? Help at events such as the Harvest and Fall Apple Festival (October), the Winter Solstice Bonfire (December) and other special programs. - Invasive Plant Removal
HELP! Invasive plants are taking over our parks--we need your help removing them from trails around the nature center. - Creek Crawler
Help keep Cabin John Creek looking good by taking creek walks to clear up debris that collects after major rain storms.
Volunteers for Community Service and Eagle Scout Projects are also welcome. Let us know if you have a particular skill, but no previous experience is needed - we provide on the job training.
Volunteer training opportunities include: nature program assistance, campfire programs, seasonal nature topics, camp counselor skills, gardening and grounds keeping, and trail orientation.
