2010 Portraits of Nature

Rich SturgesRaised in the Adirondack Region of New York State, Rich Sturges is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, camping, and pestering wildlife. He learned the basics of photography and film development in college, but his interest waned during his 20s and 30s. A technophile, Rich played with the early digital cameras, which were disappointing. When quality digital SLR systems became available, Rich replaced his ancient gear with new glass, and once again began hauling thirty pounds of cameras and lenses through the woods. "My lifelong dream is to snag shots of a bear fighting with an elk, or maybe Sasquatch vs. Mothra". During the day, Rich is a mild mannered Naval Architect for the US Navy, and works in the DDG 51 Program Office.
