Butterflies in Montgomery County

White TurtleheadMonarch ButterflyBaltimore CheckerspotButterfly Study

Montgomery County is home to many butterflies, including migratory monarchs and endangered Baltimore checkerspots. Some of our parks and facilites have managed areas that enhance butterfly habitat and others are managed for general biodiversity. Any visit to a park on a warm sunny spring, summer or fall day will provide plenty of opportunity to view butterflies, but for a special experience be sure to visit the Nature Center butterfly habitats or Brookside Gardens for the Wings of Fancy exhibit.
