Weekend Naturalist at Brookside Nature Center ($15.25-$23.63/hr.)

(Intern II -2082 Grade N13) Brookside Nature Center is seeking an individual to provide nature-oriented programs for children’s birthday parties, scout programs and nature arts and crafts activities. Duties include meeting and greeting families; presenting an hour long program and leading short walks around the nature center; occasional evening hours; and, maintaining and organizing program materials. Hours vary from 5 – 16 hours/weekend.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in education or science
  • Experience teaching children
  • Experience in creating and conducting environmental education lessons
  • Maryland natural history knowledge
  • Willingness to work outside
  • Superior communication skills; outgoing and friendly
  • Organizational ability
  • Team worker
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • FBI and MD Background check

Nature Camp Lead Teacher at Brookside Nature Center ($15.25-$23.63/hr.)

(Intern II -2082 Grade N13) Candidate will serve as Camp Lead Teacher for nature center day camps. Responsible for operating the programs within the Youth Camp Standard requirements. Duties include development and implementation of outdoor nature and science lessons for up to 20 campers and supervision of college-age counselors and high school counselor assistants and volunteers. Camp topics vary from week to week. Must be 21 years old, have two years’ experience working with children's programs and attend and complete allM-NCPPC trainings

Requirements Camp Lead Teachers:

  • BA/BS in education or science
  • Experience teaching children
  • Experience in creating and conducting environmental education lessons
  • Maryland natural history knowledge
  • Willingness to work outside all day
  • Superior communication skills; outgoing and friendly

Nature Camp Counselor at Brookside Nature Center ($8.26-$12.80/hr.)

(Program Facility Manager Aide II-2051 Grade N05) Candidate will serve as Assistants/Aides to the Camp Teachers for Montgomery County Parks Nature Center camps. Candidates will adhere to all Youth Camp Standard requirements. Some duties include assisting campers in the various activities, preparing campfires, , accompanying and monitoring campers on all field trips, maintaining order in and between activities, monitoring campers during breaks and meals, monitoring campers during before and after care, and ensuring the safety of campers at all times. Must be 18 or older, have an interest in the visual and/or performing arts, be comfortable working with children from ages 6 to 11 years old, and attend and complete all M-NCPPC trainings.

Requirements Camp Counselors:

  • BA/BS in education or science earned or in progress
  • Experience working with children, or two years minimum leading summer camps
  • Experience in creating and conducting environmental education lessons
  • Maryland natural history knowledge
  • Willingness to work outside all day
  • Superior communication skills; outgoing and friendly
  • Organizational ability
  • Team worker
  • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
  • FBI and MD Background check
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Nature Camp Counselor Assistant at Brookside Nature Center ($8.26-$12.80/hr.)

(Program Facility Manager Aide II-2051 Grade N05) Camp Counselor Assistants are the seasonal hires who have completed the CIT Program or have volunteered as counselors in previous years and do the following work:

    • Do the non-teaching/supervising jobs of camp including but not limited to:
    • Delivering ice
    • Providing drinking water in coolers twice a day
    • Delivering craft materials
    • Setting up campfires
    • Checking/resupplying  first aid supplies in camp back packs  on a weekly basis or on request
    • Empty and set up trash and recycling containers daily
    • Setting up for morning and afternoon sessions
    • Keep camp supply sheds orderly and clean.
    • Other tasks as assigned that are non-supervisory
    • Assist the Camp Director
    • Make copies of forms for camp leaders
    • Assist front desk with camp opening and closing
    • Organize and return camp supplies at end of camp sessions
    • Other duties as assigned

Requirements for Camp Counselor Assistants:

  • FBI and MD Background check
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Enjoy working outside
  • Enjoy working with children
