Friends of Black Hill Nature Programs (FOBH)

friends picnicOur friends group was formed in April 2001 to support, promote, and sustain the nature programs and special events conducted by the interpretive naturalist staff at Black Hill Visitor Center. We believe that these educational programs are the heart of the park. As a friends group, we give our support to many types of programs including:

  • Family Events: Monarch Fiesta Day, and Astronomy Day, Children's programs: Babes in the Park, Storytime on the Lake, fishing, lake exploration, and night hikes
  • Pontoon boat cruises, kayaking and canoeing
  • Adult programs: special hikes, van tours, and accredited MSDE workshops for teachers and interested adult
  • Children's summer camps
  • Programs for schoolchildren, preschoolers, scouts, and seniors
  • The Friends group purchased a greenhouse in which to grow native plants for use by our local schools & the visitor center gardens
