Cabin John Regional Park is one of Montgomery County's biggest and best combinations of nature, sports and recreation. The park encompasses athletic fields, including the beautiful Shirley Povich Field; a full-service ice-skating rink; indoor and outdoor tennis courts; and many picnic areas, trails and camp sites. Kids of all ages can enjoy summer ball games and the miniature train that runs through the park. Many of the facilities are wheelchair accessible. From nature programs and hiking to playgrounds, sports and baseball - Cabin John has something for everyone.

Athletic Area
Enjoy a variety of sports facilities located within Cabin John Regional Park. Shirley Povich Field, one of several ball fields, is hoeme to the Bethesda Big Train team and the Georgetown University baseball team, and seats 750. Other sports facilities includie a lighted baseball rield, 5 softball fields (1 lighted), 4 lighted tennis practice walls, 9 lighted tennis courts, a pee-wee soccer field, 4 single wall handball courts and one volley court. Pee-Wee soccer field, softball and baseball fields require permits for use. For further information contact Park Permits Office

The Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center features six indoor tennis courts, a lounge area, and two locker rooms with showers for patrons' use. Professional on-site racquet restringing and regripping is also available.

Cabin John Ice Rink. Offered is an assortment of programs
including lessons and rental times. Sessions are also available
for the general public, adults only and family time. For your
convenience, rental skates and a snack bar are located within

Locust Grove Nature Center

Dog Park

Located near the miniature train in Cabin John Regional Park, this half-acre dog park is enclosed with a 6-foot chain link fence, allowing dogs to run and exercise off-leash. The facility is open for use sunrise to sunset except on Tuesdays from 9AM-11AM for weekly park maintenance. Dog-park users are encouraged to use the Westlake Drive parking lot. Please remember that all dogs should be on a leash before entering and exiting the park.
Tai Chi Court

The Tai Chi Court at Cabin John Regional Park is the first Tai Chi court in Montgomery County and joins only few of its kind in the nation. Built through a public/private partnership between M-NCPPC, Montgomery Parks and the Wu Wei Tai Chi Club, the Tai Chi court is a 48-foot-diameter circle of flagstone incorporating the shape of a yin/yang symbol and surrounded by elegant benches in a serene natural setting. It is located near the dog park and miniature train at Cabin John Regional Park.
The Tai Chi court is dedicated to the memory of David C. Chen, Rockville resident and founder of the Wu Wei Tai Chi Club. David Chen practiced Tai Chi in Cabin John Regional Park every week for 12 years before he passed away unexpectedly in 2005.
The Robert C. McDonell Campground

Seven walk-in primitive sites are available with drinking water, grills and tables at Robert C. McDonell Campground. Permits are available for use of campsites and can be obtained from the Park Permit Office.
Trails
Cabin John Regional Park maintains over 5 miles of recreational hiking/biking trails with trails are maintained throughout the Park with several access points throughout the park and nature trails around Locust Grove Nature Center. The almost 9 mile long Cabin John Stream Valley Trail, is also a great choice for long-distance hiking and mountain biking from Goya Drive to the north, through the Cabin John Regional Park and along Cabin John Creek to Macarthur Blvd. to the south.
Picnic Area / Playground Areas
Our picnic and playground areas offer shelters, tables, drinking fountains, grills, restrooms, and playground equipment including ActionPlayland are available to the public. A snack bar is open on weekends and holidays from late spring through Labor Day. Buses require access permits which are issued by the Park Permit Office.
Group picnicking for 175 persons (maximum) is available through reservation. Shelters, restrooms and sports equipment are provided. Light alcoholic beverages are permitted in this restricted area. A fee and permit are required. Call the Park Permit Office to make reservation.

At Cabin John Regional Park both children and adults are entranced by a ride on the miniature train. A replica of an 1863 C.P. Huntington engine with five passenger cars carries visitors on a ten-minute, two-mile ride through the Park. The train does not operate during inclement weather.
