DERWOOD, MD-M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks will host the 23rd annual Harvest Festival at the Agricultural History Farm Park, on Saturday, October 5, 11:00 am 4:00 pm. The Harvest Festival provides people of all ages a taste of farm life from the 1850s to present through a day of hands-on activities and experiences on a working farm. The Agricultural History Farm Park is situated on 455 acres of land in Montgomery County's Agricultural Reserve, and serves as a historic farm site as well as a modern farming activity center.
This year's festival will feature live music, food and a wide selection of family-friendly activities (many are free), including:

  • Live performances from Cider Press Boys and The Patuxent Partners
  • Storytelling by Dogwood Dogs 4H Club
  • Working sheep dog demonstrations
  • Sack races and pumpkin rolling races
  • Log sawing
  • Potato scramble
  • Threshing and hay baling
  • Field machinery demonstrations
  • Blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, and woodcarving demonstrations

Additional activities will include pumpkin painting, chestnut roasting, marble making, scarecrow making, and a corn maze. Attendees can visit with live farm animals, such as chickens, pigs and goats, learn about antique farm equipment, take part in gardening talks and demonstrations and participate in an archaeological site dig to see how professional archaeologists uncover secrets of the past.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase, including ice cream and bake sale items.

The parking fee for Harvest Festival is $10 per car (cash only).
