The Parks Show 2010
The Parks Show is an award-winning monthly County Cable Montgomery (CCM) program, now running for more than 20 years. In 2009, The Parks Show was awarded an Honorable Mention "Impact Award" from the National Association of Television Officers and Advisors (NATOA). The show was a Gold Winner of the MarCom Awards in both the 2008 and 2007 competitions and the 2006 and 2004 recipient of the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association's Showcase Award for "Writing, Research or Audio Visual."
It airs regularly on CCM (Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN and Channel 30 on Verizon) and features the Montgomery County Park System and its multiple and varied features. The show is produced jointly by the Department of Parks and the Montgomery County Council. Cathy Grubman is the producer and writer while Kelli Holsendolph, media relations manager for the Parks Department, is the host of the program.

Tree-mendous Parks

It's Park & Recreation Month
The Recreation Department's Judy Stiles joins host Kelli Holsendolph for National Parks and Recreation month. Watch as we explore parks and recreation facilities at Olney Manor Recreational Park and South Germantown Recreational Park. Learn about both departments Vision 2030 long-term strategic planning project and check out our suggestions for "day-cations" in parks and recreation. (July/August)
Trail Mix: Hike it, Bike it, Hoof it
Explore the Matthew Henson Trail with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), hike the Underground Railroad Experience Trail with the Hiking Along and hit the equestrian trails at the Agricultural History Farm Park with Trail Riders of Today (TROT). We also check in with the department’s Park and Trail Planner Coordinator Chuck Kines to find out what’s new. We’ll take a look at our Heart Smart Trails, new interpretive trail signage along Hoyles Mill Trail and find out how Park Police are keeping trail users safe. (June)
For Kids, By Kids
Kalab Holsendolph, 9, hosts this kid-themed show to kick off summer. Kalab collects parks questions from his classmates and watch as he finds the answers during his Spring Break. From "did Native Americans live in Montgomery County" to "what do the owls and hawks eat," you’ll come away with plenty of answers to impress your friends too! (May)
Food for Thought
Each year, Brookside Gardens picks a theme — for 2010, it’s "Food for Thought." Learn how the Gardens is exploring this topic. Also, find out what’s cooking at the department’s new community gardens, an effort spearheaded with Councilmember Valerie Ervin. (April)
Cabin Fever
There are a number of historic cabins in Montgomery Parks. Learn about volunteer opportunities at Oakley Cabin in Brookville; get an update on the Josiah Henson Site ("Uncle Tom's Cabin") in Rockville; take a peek inside the Pioneer Cabin at Brookside Nature Center and find out about classes and explore one of the latest additions — the Ziegler Log Cabin in Clarksburg.
