Many of the State Highway Administration (SHA) Intercounty Connector (ICC) Environmental Stewardship and Compensatory Mitigation projects will take place in M-NCPPC parklands. Below is a list of the projects in our parks that will have the greatest impact on public use.

Background

In recognition of the important natural resources that will be affected by the construction of the ICC, a comprehensive package of Environmental Stewardship / Compensatory Mitigation (ES/CM) projects are part of the ICC highway construction. While your community may not be located along the ICC mainline, it may still be identified to benefit from a program that is specifically designed to improve water quality, treat runoff generated from existing developments in the project area, and to restore stream conditions in the watershed.

There are many ES/CM projects underway for the ICC. Below is a list of the projects that will have the greatest affect on the public use of M-NCPPC Parks in Montgomery County, MD. Here you will find links to materials developed for Public Meetings by SHA and by Parks staff for M-NCPPC Planning Board Mandatory Referral review.   • North Branch Stream Valley Park - All amenities will remain open.

NB-3: Stream Restoration Project   Spring 2012 through Summer 2013  
  • Flower Valley Neighborhood Park - All amenities will remain open.  The contractor is permitted the use of a portion of the park's parking lot during working hours, but the remainder of the parking lot will be open for public use.  After 5pm and on weekends, the entire parking lot will be available for public use.  Construction access will be off of Hornbeam Drive, Bitterroot Way, Emory Lane, and Jasmine Drive.

    During construction, the playground and ball field at Mill Creek Towne Local Park will remain open to the public.  The paved walking trail may be temporarily closed for relocation, but will reopen at the close of construction.  Construction access for Shady Grove Rd., Founders' Mill Dr and Baederwood La.

    Construction access off of Meadowbrook Local Park parking lot and off of Beach Drive open space.  Fields 4 and 5 will be closed for the duration of construction; field 6 will be closed initially and scheduled to reopen Fall 2011.
