Cabin John Regional Park Trails

Cabin John Regional Park Trails Map Locator This park offers over 4 miles of natural surface trails and approximately 2 miles of hard surface trails.

The key trail in the park is the Cabin John Stream Valley Trail, which extends from the park all the way to MacArthur Blvd near the C&O Canal and Potomac River. From Tuckerman Lane, the trail extends north to Goya Drive.

Unless noted otherwise on the map, trails marked “Natural Surface” and “Hard Surface” are "Shared by All" trails which includes hikers, bikers and equestrians. Additional information about permitted uses of Park trails is available on our Trail User Information page.

Hiking, and Biking


The park is located in the lower portion of the County south of Montrose Road and north of Democracy Boulevard between Seven Locks Road and Westlake Drive.

Natural Surface, 4 miles; Hard surface, less than 2 miles.

Trail characteristics

Some of the natural surface trails parallel the Cabin John Stream while others provide access to ball fields, the ice skating rink and picnic shelters. The hard surface trails are oriented to recreational facilities in the park.

Access and parkingAccessibility

Parking lots that offer the best access to the trail system are located along Democracy Blvd and Tuckerman Lane. Trail maps are available at Locust Grove Nature Center. The connector trail between the ball fields and the playground area is a rough gravel surface.
