The Park Planning Section creates and updates park master plans.These plans define the future of the park system. Park plans recommend additions and renovations to the park system to provide recreation opportunities, protect significant environmental resources, preserve key cultural resources (i.e., archaeological and historical sites) and promote an interconnected countywide trail system.

Plans in Progress
2012 PROS Plan Update - the public process has start for this plan which will determine park and recreation needs and how to implement them for the next 10 years. - Countywide Park Trails Plan Amendment - your input is needed as the public process for this plan amendment gets underway.
- Chevy Chase Open Space Urban Park - the process of collecting public input for a concept plan for this down-county park has begun.
- Vision Montgomery 2030 - A planning project for both parks and recreation for the next 20 years.
- Urban Park Guidelines - Give us your input on this planning tool.
- Sligo Creek Golf Course Reuse Plan - The County Council voted to extend the life of the golf course.
